Creating Space
Last weekend, I got bitten by the “purge-and-reorganize-everything-bug.”
This effort was motivated by a simple desire to have a place in our front entrance devoted to shoes.
For these last seven years, we’ve been living with a barricade of shoes at our front door. (fire hazard)
Unfortunately, the shoes have only grown in size thereby occupying more space and posing greater and greater threat to our ankles’ safety as we fumble through them to simply enter or leave the house.
So, I finally listened to my more minimalist son, Abraham, who often sings the tune of “we have too much furniture in our house” and decided to part with some pieces to allow for some real estate devoted to corralling shoes.
Long story short (too late), I donated a couple of large pieces, purged contents, shifted shelves and bins, sorted, reminisced and ended up with this cozy corner in my office.
The shoes have a place in the entryway and are no longer threatening our safety. Backpacks have been banished to the bench or bedrooms.
Furthermore, the rest of the house feels clearer and happier.
My cats love the cozy chair, which they have claimed as their own, and this delights me even more.
