Joyful Raindrops
Candice Marley Conner wrote a beautiful poem, “Raindrops”, for the Spring Issue of Woolgathering that encapsulates the joys of Spring.
Indeed, we have had a lot of rain (and sleet, hail, and snow) at Spring Bird during these first weeks of Spring, but the immense joy of the inclement weather is that our creek is flowing and gurgling like a happy baby.
After many months of drought, it has been a pleasure to see the water return to a bend in the creek that it had bypassed last Summer for an underground route. Not only has the creek been flowing, but the floodplains and lowlands have grown as soggy as a kitchen sponge.
Lucy and I have enjoyed slogging through it all – the creek and the mud. I just wish she’d wear galoshes. Cleaning her paws is a trick!
Patrick checked the water table records a couple of days ago, and we are almost officially out of the drought. My heart sings for the farms, gardens, trees, plants, and animals that depend so much on this essential resource!
Have raindrops been falling on your head? If so, I hope they are bringing you joy and replenishment!
