Wren Moon!

Wren Moon!

So, yesterday was a full moon that came after a very full week at Spring Bird. We’ve had a family emergency, a busy week of nature/art camp, and we are babysitting chickens!

So, for this month, I chose to honor the wren, because this time last year, we had a wren living in a birdhouse hanging from the ginkgo tree.

The wren sang and sang all day long building its nest and then later feeding the young.

Did you know that the male wrens build several decoy nests before moving and settling with its female partner into the brooding nest?

This Summer wren showed up again on our patio. This time he began building a decoy nest in a birdhouse hanging near the garlic. The birdhouse was given to me by my neighbor, and I have yet to paint it and protect it from the elements. So, it is hanging protectively under my porch eve. Then Patrick hung the harvested garlic by the same hook, and Mr. Wren showed up singing boldly and brightly – moving bits of straw into it.

Next the female came by, but they must have decided to move somewhere else because they haven’t been back.

According to Ted Andrews, Wren symbolizes resourcefulness and boldness. So, I stitched “Be Bold” on the gourd shaped birdhouse because wren would sing and sing so loudly and incessantly all day long. Meanwhile, Ninja cat would climb the ginkgo tree and watch the wren family live and work.

Singing in the face of a predator, wren kept living.

So, this full moon, celebrate your boldness and celebrate the wrens near you!
