Winter Womb

Winter Womb

Winter invites us to recede, to go within, to curl up within a womb of snow and ice until Spring’s rebirth sheds new life.

Of course, this year of the pandemic has been like an eternal winter of staying inside and apart from one another – often curled up like a hedgehog in protection of self and others.

I trust that Spring is coming and new life with it, but in the meantime – in this Wintry time, I invite you to rest, to succumb to the stillness and the quiet, and allow the parts that no longer serve to fall away and become nourishment for new life.

What if in this Winter season we are Earth’s babies, and Earth is helping us to grow and prepare for a flourishing life?

It’s sort of an empowering thought, for me anyway.

I’m really proud of this illustration, which was the cover of the Winter Issue of Woolgathering, my quarterly magazine about the seasons.
