What Do I Do Without You Full Moon

What Do I Do Without You Full Moon

Well, the moon may be waning, but I still wanted to honor this month’s full moon.

I decided to honor the juvenile red tail hawk who has been crying piercing and shrill shrieks. There were a couple of weeks where he’d cry incessantly. It was quite disturbing and alarming – actually.

He sounded heartbroken. So, I did some research into this calling behavior and found out that juvenile red tail hawks can cry after their parents leave them.

I know – heartbreaking! So, I found myself responding to him: “You are not alone!”

And, I’m pretty sure that I was also reassuring myself with these words because something in the hawk’s cry resonated with me.

It’s been a wonderful month, but there have been several moments when I have felt all alone, like my heart was hurting, and not knowing what to do. I probably would have made a piercing shriek if I could!

I embroidered the question “What do I do without you?” (inspired by the Mountain Goats’ song “Woke Up New” on this quilt square.

So, here’s to another full moon and to all of the juvenile red tail hawks who are learning to hunt and claim territory all on their own. Here’s to the lonely moments we may experience and to the songs that make us feel less alone!

PS I think my love for Tuca & Bertie influenced my cartoon-like depiction of this red tailed hawk who I made blue – because he’s sad.
