Three Ways to Feed the Birds!

We are entering the final weeks of Winter! This is a beautiful time to take notice of the birds and animals around us who have weathered Winter. They are as hungry for Spring as we are!
It’s eay to help out the birds – who are beginning to migrate already -with some simple bird feeders. Below are examples of three simple bird feeders.
Please note: If these are hung in a place where squirrels and/or raccoons can access them, then you will also be feeding them, too!
Cardboard Ornament Feeder
Gather Supplies: thin cardboard, cookie cutter, sturdy string or wire, awl, scissors, peanut butter, and bird seed. Trace your cookie cutter or template onto thin cardboard.
Trace a circle in the center of your shape and cut it out.Poke a hole at the top of the cardboard shape with an awl or a pushpin.
Thread wire or yarn through the hole at the top of the ornament and tie ends together.Pour birdseed in a shallow dish.
Spread peanut butter on both sides of the cardboard shape.
Lay the cardboard ornament in the shallow dish.
Flip the coated cardboard over to other side and lay it in the dish so that both side are coated with seed.

Peanut Butter Pinecone Feeder
You need a pinecone, thick string, birdseed, and peanut butter.
Choose a large pine cone with lots of nooks and crannies to hold birdseed.
Loop a piece of yarn or string over the thicker end of the pinecone.
Roll pinecone in peanut butter or spread it on with a table knife.
Roll peanut buttered pinecone in a shallow bowl of seed or sprinkle seed on while holding the pinecone over a plate.Hang the pinecone in a tree and watch the birds happily eat.
Orange Feeder
Supplies needed: half an orange or grapefruit, thick string, scissors, awl, birdseed After eating an orange or grapefruit that has been cut across the meridian, scoop out any remaining fruit and membrane.
Poke four holes at the cardinal directions with an awl or skewer or something sharp.
String yarn through the four holes and draw the ends up to each other and tie together.Fill the citrus cup with birdseed. Hang from a tree and watch the birds feast!
