Planting Acorns

Planting Acorns

When propagating oak trees, the very best is to plant an acorn in the fall – directly in the ground and allow it to grow.

Unfortunately, over winter, your planted acorn may be feasted on by rodents, and the acorns planted by birds and squirrels (that do survive) may be planted in places too close to existing oak trees.

So, in an attempt to have some influence over this process, we decided to try growing our own seedlings in containers. The following is how we did it. We will see what results we have in the Spring.
