Penelope in Her Element

This is my brilliant and fun daughter Penelope – or my attempt at capturing her essence which truly comes into its own when playing board games. 

The P’s (Pat and Pen) love playing board games and card games and become  really invested in them. Meanwhile the A’s (Abe and Anna) enjoy being  agents of chaos and often poke holes in the seriousness of  the P’s. 

As you may have guessed, board games are not my greatest joy but watching Penelope play them certainly is. I love her competitive nature and her passion for learning, puzzling, deciphering, and strategizing. 

I painted this portrait from an image I took  from Sunday’s came of Chronology, which we played in the sunny greenhouse next to a giant bowl of popcorn and a plate of sliced apples. And, while I still prefer chaos to board game rules and competition, I can definitely get behind Penelope’s smiles –  and a big bowl of  popcorn.
