Metaphorical Acorns

Are there anxious squirrels near you frantically gathering and burying nuts? The ones at Spring Bird must have “Winter is coming” cycling on repeat in their little nut-sized brains.
Even though we are experiencing unusually warm temperatures at Spring Bird, the leaves have almost completely fallen. The wind is wild and blustery. The deer’s coats have become dull and greyish brown. It’s clear that winter is coming, which begs the question, what am I doing to prepare? What are my metaphorical acorns?
I’ve been mending mittens and gloves, soaking up the sun when she shines, and appreciating the warmth that is still here. I’ve been purging some closets and planning a deep clean as I anticipate more time indoors. And we are racing to bring the greenhouse to a point of completion before it endures its first winter.
How are you preparing for winter? What are your acorns like?
