Jack Skellington or a Giant Puffball Mushroom?

Unfortunately it’s the latter, but I would like to think that all of the puffball mushrooms are actually macabre doll heads sprouting up like cabbage patch dolls. 

After we have received some much needed rain, the puffball mushrooms have popped up everywhere! 

They look so other-worldly that they still surprise me when they catch my eye. 

Perhaps that is why I haven’t eaten one yet. Although, my Mom just harvested two and has been sauteing and freezing them. 

According to the internet they are high in protein and low in calories! Woot! Maybe I should switch to an all puffball diet. . .We certainly have a lot of them around!!

So far, we have limited our mushroom harvest to the morels that grow here and the shiitake that we have cultivated ourselves.
