Hygge and Handmade Woolen Knits

Hygge and Handmade Woolen Knits

In the 2020 Winter Issue of Woolgathering, I explored the values of Hygge as an approach to surviving Winter – particularly Winter during a pandemic.

Hygge (the Danish practice of nurturing coziness within everyday life) values the warmth of wool and in particular, the spiritual warmth of handmade woolen items.

For Christmas, I bought myself a wool hat and legwarmers made by AnuCraft.

They are bringing me so much warmth (physical and spiritual) and cozy comfort. For, at the core of Hygge, is the idea that we need to feel safe when there is a storm raging.

And, we seem to be having frequent storms these days!

How about you? Do you feel comforted by handmade woolens or just itchy?
