An Anna Lentz

Alice Neel is my favorite portrait artist. I think about her work each time I paint a face – mine or someone else’s. 

This self portrait is . . . finished . . . I think. 

It’s certainly no Alice Neel. 

I guess it’s an Anna Lentz, though. 

I’m not super pleased or displeased with it. It’s just complete . . . for now.

Regardless, it felt good to paint on canvas again, and it felt good to paint a person. 

Portraits in general are so pleasurable and satisfying. It’s like having a ghostly presence on your walls.
