Garlic Harvest is a Good Day!
It’s time for one of my favorite harvests – GARLIC!
If you are like me, you double or triple the garlic “suggestion” in any given recipe.
Having bundles of fresh garlic hang right outside the kitchen allow me to cook with ease as I know that I can rely on an abundance of garlic.
Furthermore, it tastes so good when it is fresh. I had a friend who happens to be an octogenarian report that it was the best garlic she and her husband had ever had.
Furthermore – furthermore, the bundles are a nifty contraption for ridding us of vampires! (My favorite dad joke.)
Now, if they could only keep the bloodsucking mosquitoes away! (For real, we’ve had next to no mosquitoes all Summer, and over the course of two days, it has become deadly out there.)
Patrick invited the kids to do the harvesting this year, and then he hung up the bundles to dry. They are protected from rain and have enough air circulating around them.
In the fall, he will plant about half – or at most half of them. You plant each clove of a garlic bulb separately. So this will increase our yield significantly.
Considering we ran out of garlic this past year, I say yes to more and more garlic!
Last night we made Thai Basil Tofu stir fry using home grown basil, green beans, garlic, and chile peppers (frozen from last year). It is so rewarding to eat what we grow, and it usually tastes better too.
