Story Quilt Workshop Review
This past Saturday, I taught the Story Quilt Workshop at Spring Bird’s Cottage! This was such a lovely day spent making quilts – one of my favorite things in the whole world!
I shared with the group that for me, making story quilts is manifesting parts of myself into the world. These quilts feel sacred, powerful and have their own presence – almost like sculpture.
In sewing our stories, we have an opportunity to honor them as well as to be comforted by them, because it’s soothing to sew them and you might quite literally be able to curl up on a snowy day under them.
Check out the amazing work that was done. I only regret that I didn’t get enough photos of the pieces in their final stages.
We used hand and machine sewn rough edge applique to sew down the pieces to our stories.
We also used a lot of vintage and upcycled linens, napkins, curtains etc. These older pieces of fabric added layers to our stories.
This was so much fun! I will definitely be teaching it again in 2020. I am toying with the idea of creating a quilting series where we’d meet several times to work on our quilts. What do you think?
